Adam Bremner-Akins Announces Candidacy for the BC Green Party, Focuses on Affordability, Sustainability, and Community

Port Coquitlam, BC — Adam Bremner-Akins, a long-time advocate for sustainable development and youth engagement in politics, is excited to announce his candidacy for the BC Green Party in the upcoming provincial election. Adam, a proud graduate of Terry Fox Secondary School and a lifelong resident of Port Coquitlam, is running to represent the values and voices of his community, which he believes have long been overlooked.

At just 18 years old, Adam made history as one of the youngest candidates in British Columbia during the 2020 snap election. Since then, his commitment to public service has only grown stronger. Currently a Political Science student at Simon Fraser University, with a minor in Resource and Environmental Management, Adam continues to champion progressive policies aimed at making life more affordable and sustainable for British Columbians.

“I’m tired of living in a province where my values feel unrepresented,” Adam said. “As a student and local worker, I have witnessed firsthand the growing challenges facing my community. The dream of owning a home in the place I was raised feels entirely out of reach. Local residents are being priced out of their neighbourhoods, and we’ve seen no effective action from this government to address housing affordability.”

Adam’s candidacy comes at a time when many are grappling with the rising cost of living, housing shortages, and the climate crisis. Adam believes that the government has failed to act quickly and decisively to tackle these interconnected issues.

As a candidate, Adam is committed to key principles that he believes will drive positive change in the province: Affordability, Sustainability, Healthcare, and Community. Adam is a vocal proponent of policies that reinvigorate the healthcare system, prioritize green infrastructure, and foster a more inclusive, fair economy. His experience serving on the BC Green Party’s Youth Advisory Council from 2020 to 2022, and currently as the Secretary of the Provincial Council, has deepened his commitment to addressing these urgent issues head-on.

Adam’s leadership within the BC Green Party, combined with his passion for environmental stewardship and social justice, makes him a compelling voice for the future. He believes that by working together, we can create a province that is affordable, sustainable, and inclusive for everyone.

Quotes:

“The cost of living continues to skyrocket, and working families are struggling to make ends meet. Rent, mortgage payments, food, transportation—it’s all becoming more expensive, yet there’s no sense of urgency from the BCNDP or the BC Conservatives.”

“It is not just my generation that deserves better, we all do. We need bold, sustainable policies that work for the people of British Columbia, not just for the headlines. It’s time we take back our province and put the needs of families, workers, and communities at the forefront.”
